Madison, Wisconsin’s Traditions Holiday Lighting and Seasonal Decor was the winner of our Residential C9 Lighting Project and Best Photographed categories for the 2018 Holiday Bright Lights Photo Contest. They were also chosen as our overall winner and will be featured in the 2019 Holiday Bright Lights Catalog.
Phil Sutter, along with his best friend, Zach Zweifel, started Traditions Lighting when they were both just 20 years old. Phil was a full time engineering student at UW Madison and Zach was working full time at a different job.
The first four years, they worked full time jobs elsewhere and did Christmas and holiday lighting on nights and weekends. After year four, Traditions was their full time job and they added additional lighting services to grow into an actual company that now sustains several employees throughout the year.
After 7 years of hard work, Traditions Lighting is a booming holiday lighting company decorating around 215 properties each season in southern Wisconsin. They are located in Madison and do most of their decorating there, but travel to Milwaukee, Lake Geneva and Stevens Point to complete lighting jobs.
Every company focuses on customer service, but Traditions Lighting really lives that. Part of it is the communication with clients and the hard work that goes into getting their work done in a timely matter, but on another side, they use custom built software that allows a very, very fast response time in getting clients their proposals. That really separates Traditions from other Christmas lighting companies, because they are able to talk with a client at their home, and often have a proposal by the end of the day, and install a day or two later if needed. They are able to streamline the process with the use of technology built specifically for the lighting industry.
This streamlined process and use of technology allow the company to make each and every design really customized. Many choose to have a basic roofline with a wreath and a few of their trees decorated. More times than not, their clients request warm white on the roofline and maybe just a bit of color on some trees. That being said, it only takes a quick glance at their website to see that the sky is the limit with design options, as seen in their extensive portfolio.
